SpeechDone

For lawyers

The dictation app for lawyers on iPhone

You speak the file note, the email to your client or a first draft, and after you stop the cleaned-up text is in the field right away. On iPhone, iPad and Mac. Server in Germany, recognition only on EU servers, DPA in text form.

On the way back to the officeSaid

Dear Mr. Kaya, as discussed, I will send you the documents by um, Thursday, no, Friday

ToMr. Kaya

SubjectDocuments by Friday

Dear Mr. Kaya, as discussed, I will send you the documents by Friday.

Three situations from the working day

  1. A file note after the meeting

You dictate in the corridor what was discussed. You paste the text where it belongs. The original stays in your history next to the cleaned-up version, in case you want to check later what exactly was said.

  2. An email to your client

“Dear Mr. Kaya, as discussed, I will send you the documents by Friday.” You speak the email instead of typing it on a small display. SpeechDone adapts to the app you are writing in. You check names and file numbers yourself before you send.

  3. A draft on the move

On the train you think of the outline for a brief. You speak it into the keyboard instead of trying to remember it, and refine it at your desk. You rewrite selected text by voice when the tone is not right yet (Pro).

What happens after the client meeting

The meeting is over, you are outside the courthouse or on your way back to the office, and everything that mattered is still fresh: what the client said, what you agreed, which deadline now runs. There is no calm for the file note right now, and by evening half of it is gone.

With SpeechDone you speak the note right away. You may correct yourself and throw in a “no, wait”. SpeechDone cleans up as you pause, and after you stop the text is there, with punctuation and without the ums.

What SpeechDone does for that

What SpeechDone is not

SpeechDone is a dictation app, not law firm software. It does not manage files, deadlines or billing. The text lands where your cursor is, and you decide what to keep.

Privacy: what happens to your dictation

You are bound by professional secrecy, and client data falls under your duty of confidentiality. So here is where your dictation goes, without gloss.

Our server runs at Hetzner in Germany. Speech recognition runs only on EU servers: Deepgram (Deepgram, Inc., USA, processing on EU servers) transcribes live, and Mistral AI (Paris) recognizes the recording once more, section by section. Both hear the same recording, and one of the two providers is a US company. Neither uses your recordings for training: we opt out with Deepgram on every request, and with Mistral it is switched off in our account.

Your recording is not stored on our server. It is only processed in memory during recognition. We keep the recognized result in a cache for up to 24 hours so that an interrupted connection is not processed twice, and delete it afterwards. By default the app keeps your history in your own iCloud.

Recognition and text processing always run in the EU. There is no switch to servers in the US, and SpeechDone does not fall back there when something is down.

You conclude the data processing agreement (DPA) under Art. 28 GDPR with us in text form: view the DPA. There is also a confidentiality undertaking under Section 203 of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Lawyers are bound by professional secrecy; the undertaking covers us as a person assisting in your work (Section 203 (4) StGB). Every service provider that processes data is listed on the subprocessor page.

Whether that is enough for your practice is your decision. This is not legal advice: check it with your bar association. More on the technical side in the guide to dictation apps and GDPR.

Where is my dictation processed?

Our server runs at Hetzner in Germany. Recognition runs only on EU servers, at Deepgram (Deepgram, Inc., USA) and Mistral AI (Paris). Your recording is not stored on our server.

Can I sign a data processing agreement with SpeechDone?

Yes. You conclude the DPA under Art. 28 GDPR with us in text form. The service providers are listed on the subprocessor page.

What does Section 203 StGB mean for using SpeechDone?

We offer a confidentiality undertaking under Section 203 of the German Criminal Code that covers us as a person assisting in your work (Section 203 (4) StGB). Whether that is enough for your practice, you settle with your bar association.

May I dictate client data?

The decision is yours, and we do not give legal advice. What we commit to is in the DPA: processing only in the EU and a confidentiality undertaking under § 203 of the German Criminal Code.

Does dictation work in my law firm software?

On iPhone and iPad the SpeechDone keyboard works in every app, and on the Mac you insert the text at the cursor with the fn key (macOS 15 or later). We do not offer an integration with specific law firm software.
